This painting was premiered in the spring of 2009. It has been hard to get a good digital copy of it, but here is a good idea. I have also attached a photo which was actually taken while I was working on this painting. I feel like it is a good meter for what this stuff is all about. Thanks to Ivan for letting me live and paint in his one bedroom apartment.

Among other things this involves: no home, no car, booz, coldest winter yet, cigarettes, women, men, school work, work, no sleep, disjointed friends, the skyline, homeless friends and enemies, etc.

The processes of blood letting, washing or releasing impurities usually comes at a cost. This painting is really about sacrifice. Letting something go, or allowing something to die so that it allows for other areas in life to thrive. It’s like the old forest burnt down only to fertilize a renewed and healthy ecosystem. This is the gist of the painting. For me, this painting is surrounded around the person of Jesus Christ.

This piece was featured in the Eastside City Arts Magazine for July. Inspired by music, the painting emerged from the genre of shoe-gaze. Belle Orchestra, Cool Hand Luke, Hammock, Juno and other artists compelled me to think about this piece in a way I haven’t seen others before. I felt like I had nothing to offer the canvas, but the more I listened to the iPod, the more I saw something coming. In essence, the piece’s thesis is that there is something in what we often see as nothing.

What’s involved: acrylics, wax and ink.

Aww. Feels good to do new things and to love it! This is another minimalist piece that comes out of self-psycho analysis. “If we could see ourselves now”, was the subtitle to this work. The whole idea is that, we don’t know how repulsive we are, we just assume we are okay as we go from day to day. If only we could see how we act and look, then we would truly be motivated to change…or to just give up. This is the broken mirror of pride as I would like to call it.

For a mentor of mine: Sokkha. He not only was my friend, he helped sort through the sad and frustrating thoughts of my adolescence. He was always there for me and we did everything together – this is in turn is a tribute.
